Veritas Power Tenon Cutters

Veritas Power Tenon Cutters are aluminum-body tenon cutters that cut smooth, perfect tenons with radiused shoulders.  Cutters are designed to run vibration-free driven by an electric drill, yet still yield the same accuracy with a hand brace.  The anodized body is balanced to eliminate vibration, and a built-in level makes in-line cutting more accurate.

Veritas Power Tenon Cutters cut smooth, perfect tenons with radiused shoulders (rounded transitions where the tenon meets the shoulder) for a clean fit and finished look. You can cut smooth, accurate tenons for round-stock joinery without a lathe, whether you’re building rustic furniture or fitting rails and posts in log home construction. Cutters are designed to run vibration- free driven by an electric drill yet still yield the same accuracy when used with a hand brace. The anodized body is balanced to eliminate vibration, and a built-in level makes in-line cutting more accurate.

For increased safety, the contoured back end of the blade helps reduce snagging on clothing or the workpiece during operation. The body has a built-in honing guide (a fixed guide that sets the sharpening angle) for easy sharpening of blades on a drill-press mounted drum sander. The blade is adjustable to cut the exact size of tenons required in both dry and green wood. All sizes have hex shanks (a six-sided shank that grips the drill chuck securely). The 1 inch tenon cutter is used in an electric drill with a 3/8 inch or larger chuck and cuts 2-3/4 inch long tenons. The 1- 1/2 and 2 inch tenon cutters, which require more torque to drive, are for use in larger electric drills with a 1/2 inch or larger chuck and cut 4-1/4 inch long tenons.

Warning: Not for use in a drill press.

What Can You Build with a Veritas Power Tenon Cutter?

The 1 inch cutter size is a great fit for rustic furniture, including chairs, stools, small tables, and rail-and-stretcher assemblies where you want repeatable tenons on round stock.

The larger 1-1/2 inch and 2 inch cutter sizes are better for larger structural connections in log and timber projects, including bed frame to post joinery, fence rail to post connections, and other round-stock joinery where you need more bearing surface. If a project calls for mechanical fastening instead of (or in addition to) tenons, consider using Log Boss Log & Timber Fasteners or SPAX PowerLag Log & Timber Fasteners as an alternative structural connection method.
