Colorfast Pre-Stain Base Coat evens out wood porosity by creating a smoother surface for stain application, which prevents blotchiness caused by uneven absorption of stain in porous wood. This smoothing of the wood surface also makes staining easier by reducing the amount of back-brushing of the stain. A base coat of Colorfast strengthens the lignin in wood that binds the cells together, which prevents yellowing of the underlying wood cells from UV damage, and maintains a consistent color year after year.
Colorfast is great as a log keeper coat, preventing mold and yellowing due to UV damage on new wood as it moves from the mill to the job site and throughout the construction process. Colorfast contains both mildewcide and algaecide to help preserve the wood until the stain is applied. When applied heavily on log ends, Colorfast prevents over-penetration of stain that often makes log ends darker than the rest of the logs. Applied to interior logs under Sashco Symphony interior clear coat, Colorfast prevents the picture-frame effect caused by yellowing of wood around wall décor. Note: Colorfast should NOT be used on walking surfaces or with a deep-penetrating non-drying oil-based stain.
Colorfast Pre-Stain Base Coat features include:
- Keeps the color the color by stabilizing wood cells to prevent yellowing and darkening of the wood over time.
- Reduces stain blotchiness by smoothing porous wood and creating more even stain application.
- Prevents picture-frame effect on interior wood caused by yellowing of wood around wall décor.
- Can be applied under any Sashco stain—both water-based and oil-based.
- Causes easier stain application by greatly reducing the amount of back-brushing needed.
- Prevents mold and yellowing of new wood during the construction process prior to staining.
- When applied heavily on log ends, Colorfast prevents darkening of log ends caused by over-absorption of stain.
